Max Brett is Climbing Mount Toubkal!
On 5th October 2026, I will be climbing Mount Toubkal in Morocco, the highest point in North Africa at 4,167 metres, alongside two of my friends. We are taking on this challenge to raise money for Head for Change, a charity that is particularly close to my heart.
Two years ago, I lost my dad to suicide after he had battled depression for around 10 months. My dad was the funniest person I knew, a huge role model to me, and someone I looked up to my entire life. Seeing him become so unwell and watching how much his illness changed him is something that has stayed with me.
My dad also played semi-professional rugby and had his fair share of concussions throughout his playing career. While we will never know for certain, there is a possibility that he could have been affected by CTE (chronic traumatic encephalopathy). Unfortunately, because he passed away before any testing could take place, we will never know whether this played a part.
I am raising money for Head for Change because I want to help support research and provide a better understanding of CTE, so that people affected by it can get the help and support they need, and their families don’t have to face it alone.
This climb is going to be a huge physical and mental challenge, but having the reason behind this fundraiser in my mind will give me the motivation to reach the summit. Any donation, no matter how big or small, would mean a huge amount to me and my family.
